About Greater Manchester BME Network

Research carried out in 2006 by MCCR showed that the nature, level and quality of infrastructure support services to BME VCS organisations varied considerably across the ten local authority areas of Greater Manchester. To address this, the BASIS 2 project aims are to strengthen networking of BME VCS organisations across Greater Manchester and improve the standard of infrastructure support.

The project will achieve this by ensuring that:

  • Each local authority area has a representative, effective and efficient network for local BME VCS organisations;
  • VCS organisations currently supporting BME VCS are better able to meet the development needs of those communities;
  • A network is developed across Greater Manchester to promote the interests of BME VCS, identify changing needs, co-ordinate activity and develop the sustainability of local support.

The project is delivering a programme of focused work across the sub-region to address identified needs and ensure there is an acceptable level of support to BME VCS organisations; and is working across all areas in Greater Manchester to ensure good practice and resources are shared and that progress is coordinated.

Aims and Objectives

  • Supporting the development of networks and partnerships across the 10 local authority areas
  • Developing a representative Greater Manchester BME Network to ensure a strong voice in decision making
  • Delivering a programme of support services
